Jam / Incomplete Status

This is a jam build: rough edges, placeholder art, minimal audio, limited enemy roster, and early decay tuning. Balance, polish, accessibility options, and expanded interactions will improve post-jam. Some UI elements, progression hooks, and weapon diversity are intentionally skeletal.

Description

Decaycore is a fast-paced, procedural dungeon crawler built for Godot Wild Jam 87 (Theme: Decay). You descend through unstable, shifting rooms where two pressures fight for dominance: recoverable Health and irreversible Decay. Toxic fog pulses through chambers, enemies swarm narrow passages, and every moment spent lingering bleeds away the run's remaining viability. You can patch wounds. You cannot shake the rot.

Instead of a traditional timer, Decay acts as a mounting existential tension. The deeper you go, the more Decay defines your risk posture: Do you rush unsafe routes to avoid fog buildup, or take the long way and gamble on future rooms? Positioning, route triage, and exposure management become the core verbs of survival.

This jam build focuses on foundational systems: procedural floor generation, fog hazard pulses, a pursuing bat enemy, directional shooting, knockback, and floating combat/decay feedback. Much of the planned content (expanded weapon variety, mutation thresholds, corruption events, meta progression) is intentionally slim or stubbed due to time constraints.

Theme Integration

Rather than treating decay as damage-over-time, Decay is identity erosion: the longer you linger, the more the run shifts from power-building to survival triage. Future versions will extend this into mutations, visual scene corrosion, and altered enemy behaviors keyed off Decay thresholds.
